Why Some Webinars aren’t Worth It

Webinars

Attending webinars is an excellent way to develop professionally. During the pandemic, webinars became more popular. Many people decided to learn from experts as they start sharing their industry knowledge. While some are worth attending, others aren’t. Here’s why you should select which webinars to pay attention to.

They’re long and repetitive

long and repetitive

Just because you attended a long webinar doesn’t mean it’s worth it. The timing might be that way because there are too many repetitive ideas. You don’t want to sit through the webinar when it doesn’t offer something new. You would rather use your time doing something else.

Some speakers don’t go straight to the point

When the topic is popular and there isn’t anything new to talk about, some speakers tend to stretch things out. It’s the only way to make the webinar more interesting. Otherwise, it will be over in a few minutes. No one would pay for a webinar of that length. The strategy is to drag the discussion as long as possible before going to the point. If the speaker has a reputation of doing it, you would rather not attend the webinar.

The speakers aren’t experts

It’s easy to setup a webinar and embellish a resume to sound attractive. The truth is some speakers don’t have sufficient industry experience and knowledge to lead a webinar. They’re not the best resource persons to help you grow professionally. There might be hype around the webinar, but it’s only due to marketing expertise. Some people know how to make noise online and make everyone believe they’re signing up for the best webinar.

There are other resources

If you can sign up for a taped webinar that you can watch at your own time, it would be great. However, a live webinar that lets you sit through hours of discussion might not be the best choice. The worst part is if you wasted so much time doing it while other resources with similar information are available. Read the details or watch the previews first before signing up.

The fees are too high

While some webinars have the best speakers, you might still not want to sign up for it. Sure, these world-renowned resources have a lot to say. However, their ideas might have already been published elsewhere. You can look things up online and realize you’re getting the same information. You can save more money if you don’t attend the webinar. It’s like watching a live concert and listening to songs on your phone. Unless you’re a huge fan of the artist, there’s no point in going to the live concert.

These reasons show that some webinars are to be avoided. It doesn’t mean you must not sign up. The point is you should be more meticulous in determining which webinar to attend. You may also look at reviews or ask others who have witnessed the same speaker in the past.
