Why Do People Quit Their Jobs Amid the Pandemic?
During the start of the pandemic, everyone was worried about potential layoffs. Several businesses have closed and were unable to recover from the restrictions. Since then, the government eased up on businesses and allowed things to move forward as usual. The expected result would have been the increase in employment. While it’s still true, there’s mass exodus happening across industries. People who were not laid off decided to leave their jobs. Why is it happening, and what can business owners do?
There are no opportunities for growth
The pandemic has shown how unfair various corporations are to employees. The benefits are only experienced by people on top. Everyone on the lower end of the corporate ladder is left out. The worst part is there’s no chance to rise. With this realization, employees decided to leave and seek other opportunities. Others decided to take the risk and start their own. They would rather go that route and be in control of their fate. Open doors for moving up the ladder and these employees will love their job.
The unfair work conditions are unbearable
Some people agreed to work for companies without realizing the corporate practices and rules are unfair. They only realized how bad things are during the pandemic. Several businesses continued growing and moved in the right direction while most employees are working from home. Returning to the original schedule and following old rules became too much to bear for some. Hence, quitting was the best option. Listening to the employees is an excellent way to end this problem. Let them determine the best and fairest practices. As long as they can get the job done, it’s good enough.
Employees don’t agree with company values
Running a business isn’t only about making money. There should be a clear goal. The values must also stand out. They have to be clear to the employees. If they disagree with the perceived values, it’s a problem. They can’t work hard if they realize that the overall picture doesn’t look good. Start by explaining what the values are and how everyone can align with them. You may also let employees modify these values based on what they see while working.
The world feels exhausting
Fighting the global pandemic and working hard despite what’s happening can be too much. Some people have also suffered from mental health issues due to the endless lockdowns and inability to connect with others. Not doing things as they normally would become too hard to bear. Despite the financial hardships, many employees took the risk and resigned. Allow the employees to have a more flexible schedule. Listen to what they believe can help boost your business and employee relations. Some have been with you for a while and they can tell you what’s right without prejudice.
Mass resignation isn’t a sign that people are giving up. It shows that everyone wants a break. Prepare your business for the possibility of everyone wanting to get a job from your business.
