How to Inspire Your Best Employees to Stay
You don’t want to lose your best employees. They keep your company alive and they’re your strength. You want them to stay and be with you as long as possible. The problem is these people are of high-caliber. You can’t expect them to stay in a job when there’s a better offer elsewhere. You need a conscious effort to keep them in your team. Here are some tips to consider.
Recognize their efforts
These excellent employees know their worth. They see the value of what they’re doing in the office. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t recognize them. Make sure you tell them what you like about their work and where they do an excellent job. Recognizing their efforts will also allow the employees to strive harder. Again, it’s not only about the salary that they get from work. It’s also about the kind of working environment they’re in.
Challenge them to do more
These employees might get bored when they have to do the same things over and over again. They should be challenged to do more. Allow them to take the lead. Ask them to open projects or propose ideas you might want to implement. Challenging these employees will make them want to do more. They will also stay because they don’t get bored. However, be careful not to go beyond what they’re capable of. You also can’t take too much of their time. It can be a reason for them to leave.
Don’t put them under immense pressure
Just because they’re doing well doesn’t mean you will set higher standards and expectations. You must stay fair if you want your employees to do a great job. Again, a terrible working environment is a good excuse to leave. Give them sufficient time to do a project or prove themselves.
Offer pathways for promotion
While seniority remains a popular promotion strategy, you can’t do it all the time. If you find employees who are capable of doing a good job despite their age, offer the chance to be promoted. Some companies might offer this chance and you will lose your best employees in the process.
Apart from promotions, offer bonuses and perks too. Salary bump isn’t the only way. You can use other forms of encouragement. You have to reward good performance and explain why you did it.
Know them personally
The work environment should be relaxing. While you’re the boss, you can still talk to everyone for matters outside work. Your employees must feel good about having you on top. Getting to know them personally requires you to get out of your corner room. Host after-work celebrations or dinners. You want everyone to feel comfortable about you.
With these tips, your best employees will most likely stay. They know they’re in the right workplace. Of course, you can’t be complacent since anything can happen.
